Building Roots West

After years of building and renovating in Ontario, I felt a calling to head west and start a new chapter surrounded by the mountains, trees, and ocean of Vancouver Island. The transition wasn’t easy - leaving behind familiar projects, networks, and routines - but the West Coast has given me fresh energy and inspiration. Here, I’ve found a balance between my love of construction and the slower, grounding rhythm of life by the sea.

Moving out west also opened new opportunities to connect with women in trades initiatives and advocacy on the Pacific Coast. I’ve always believed that building should be accessible and empowering for everyone, and supporting women in this industry is one of my greatest passions. Being part of this community out here, I get to share my experiences, encourage the next generation, and contribute to a movement that is changing the face of construction.

Most exciting of all, I was able to purchase a beach house - a dream come true and the start of another renovation adventure. This project brings together everything I love: transforming spaces, respecting nature, and creating something lasting in one of the most beautiful places in Canada. Every nail, every beam, every choice reflects my journey, both as a builder and as someone learning to live in harmony with the wild and wonderful West Coast.
